September 9, 2010: Caroline County Habitat for Humanity Receives Top Award at Governor’s Conference on Housing

Caroline County Habitat for Humanity (CCHFH) was selected and received one of six awards given at the Governor’s Conference on Housing and Sustainable Communities. The award was given, on behalf of Governor O’Malley, at the Commitment to Excellence Awards Luncheon during the conference. See Secretary Raymond Skinner’s letter to Mr. Clemens DHCD Award Letter.pdf.

The Luncheon is an opportunity for the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to recognize projects, individuals, and organizations that exemplify the DHCD’s mission to work with partners to finance housing opportunities and revitalize great places for Maryland citizens to live, work, and prosper. This year there were six categories: Homeownership, Rental Housing, Special Needs Housing, Partner of the Year, Community Building, and Small Business Development. They received many nominations from across the state and went through a careful selection process, and chose CCHFH as the winner of the Homeowner category for their Lake Creek Court housing project in Federalsburg. The award was presented by Raymond A. Skinner, Secretary of DHCD, on behalf of Governor O’Malley to Deacon Bill Nickum, President of CCHFH, and William Clemens, Executive Director of CCHFH.

This is a tremendous honor for CCHFH, whose mission it is to provide safe, comfortable and affordable housing to low-income residents in Caroline County. Though they are a small organization, their accomplishments speak for themselves
